Question:
Sink the Shigure is wonderful. I was in the U.S. Navy from 1952-1960 and aboard the USS Sperry AS-12 the same time you were aboard. I celebrated my 80th birthday on August 24, 2012 and have attended several Sperry Reunions. If you live in Greensboro, NC, I wonder if you ever met my school classmate Edward Preston? Ed died in June. Great guy, His wife Joanne still lives in Greesboro. Thanks and take care, Bill
Answer:
Dear Bill, That is wonderful that you were on the Sperry. The Sperry reference in my book was actually in the dedication to Richard Hudson, an old sailor who was like a second dad to me. He served on the Sperry at that time. He often entertained me for hours on end with his sea stories. Perhaps he knew Mr. Preston. I am very sorry to hear of his passing. Thank you for your service, and I’m very honored that you enjoyed my novel. God Bless – RCC
